The AcA Needs Your Help
Please Support The Cultural Economy

The Acadiana Center for the Arts urges you to support the restoration of the Louisiana Division of the Arts. These critical funds support grants to organizations in every parish of the state through the Decentralized Arts Funding Program ("DAF") and the Statewide Arts Grants ("SAG"). These funds support grants to organizations in every parish of the state through the Decentralized Arts Funding Program ("DAF") and the Statewide Arts Grants ("SAG").

This program creates jobs in the cultural economy as well as supplements the work of schools, libraries and community organizations across the state. The DAF awarded 424 grants across all parishes during fiscal year 2008.  It benefited over 3.3 million citizens and visitors and contributed $6 dollars to state coffers for every $1 invested.  Due to the unique nature of this funding mechanism, the concept of its equitable distribution and impact would cease to exist if this cut comes to fruition. In addition to the social impact of the cut, the fiscal impact to the state tax base would total $14.8 million.

The AcA urges you to write your Legislature to restore $2,468,938 to the Decentralized Arts Funding Program and $798,624 to the Statewide Arts Grants by simply clicking here and filling out a quick, easy to use form. Instructions on filling out the form can be found below.

For more information/statistics on how these budget cuts will affect the Arts click here.

Instructions for writing your Legislatures

  • Log onto www.lparts.org
  • On the left side under "Write Your Legislator" (it looks like an ad), insert  your Zip Code and press GO. You'll be taken directly to "Action Alerts."   Please complete the first two of these, one at a time.

#1:  "State of Louisiana: Contact Gov. Jindal."

  • Click on "Take Action"
  • Fill out your name and address on that one.  You will get a confirmation notice.  Hit the back button 2 times to get back to the action alerts.

#2: "State of Louisiana: Arts Funding in Jeopardy."

  • Click on "Take Action"  That is the one that goes to the legislators.
  • Confirm your zip code and press "Go". Complete that one the same way and you're done.

The AcA would like to thank you in advance for helping secure funding for these critical grant programs.
